In 2016 Hotrod Creations worked with Islington Borough Council to create a successful HLF funding bid to renovate the facilities and public interpretation at Caledonian Park. We are now developing the creative ideas into designs and production.
In 2016/17 the Canal & River Trust renovated a unique double radial lock at Carpenters Road in the middle of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford. The Park is crisscrossed by several canals, rivers and flood relief channels which reflect the area’s geography and previous land usage. Hotrod worked with the Trust to create a coherent narrative at Carpenters Road Lock that connected these waterways to the vanished industrial buildings, the iconic 2012 Olympic facilities and the still-in-construction post-Olympic developments of housing, education, retail and leisure districts.
Some projects are so big they need their own room. The Shell Centre redevelopment on London’s South Bank is one of those projects. Over the next two years 4,000 company staff will encounter new construction work, comprehensive office fitouts, the physical relocation of every department (a number of times) and significant changes in their office design to support modern working practices. Shell asked Hotrod how best to keep their staff up to date with progress and clearly focused on the positive outcomes.
For the past eight months we have been working closely with our partners at TGA.London (more to come!), five Country Parks in Hampshire and the County Council to develop an exciting new approach to their communication, interpretation and wayfinding.
The experience starts with bespoke iconic sculptures, 21st century totems with the elements drawn from the parks’ unique identities. These iconic elements then radiate out through the parklands appearing in signage and wayfinding, as play prompts and marking narrative hotspots. The parks are connected across vast human and geologic timelines that criss-cross the landscape, waiting to be explored if you know how to look.
This week, the Know Your Place touring exhibit reached its final destinations – shown here in Salisbury Cathedral.
We had our problem-solving hats on for this project – how to make a digital touring exhibition that could fit into twelve different venues and still look fabulous whatever the lighting conditions.
Have you ever wondered what makes a place the way it is now? Or wished you could travel back in time and discover how your area has changed over the years?
Working with some 20 content partners – archives, records offices and museums – the HLF and the South Gloucestershire County Council, City-Insights has created a complete set of four touring digital exhibitions exploring the heritage of the West of England.
This exhibition uses our C-I Platform, in combination with the Know Your Place mapping tool, to take the heritage collections of the West of England out of the archives and museums, take them on the road and put them back into the places that inspired and generated them.
In May 2016 Hotrod, TGAC and City-Insights were jointly awarded the Hampshire Parks Transformation Project for Hampshire County Council.
We will be completing the interpretation strategy and individual plans for five Country Parks in Hampshire: Lepe, Staunton, Queen Elizabeth, Royal Victoria and Manor Farm.
After winning a place on TfL’s graphic design framework, Hotrod delivered its first completed brief this spring – a suite of materials to support a London-wide Get Cycling Campaign. Working within the TfL guidelines, we successfully produced a wide range of branded materials in different formats: DL leaflets, A1 to A4 posters, A5 flyers, web graphics, social media graphics and bicycle hangers.
