Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, Wrexham

The dramatic Aqueduct carrying the Llangollen canal over the river Dee is a major visitor attraction, and features in a variety of tourist literature across the area. But there was no co-ordination or consistency on the use of brands, images or words.

Hotrod was engaged by a consortium of local stakeholders to devise a branding strategy and Design Toolkit that could be deployed across all sites and publications to create a coherent visual identity.

Hotrod conducted an extensive brand audit, visiting the local area to see for ourselves how the Aqueducts was referenced on panels and print in different locations. A series of workshops created consensus amongst the stakeholders and provided the starting point for a graphic design project to set brand guidelines and uses.

The project wrapped up in Spring 2015, and has been very well received across all the stakeholder community and Local Councils. New interpretation work will be implemented across the 11 mile site through to 2016.
